The data is in QuickBooks Online—but the balances do not make sense. The bank does not match, old invoices still look open, and your CPA is asking questions the file cannot answer. OneBooks corrects bookkeeping errors, reconciles the accounts in scope, and prepares reviewed financial statements your business and CPA can use.
No obligation. Your proposed scope and price are provided before cleanup work begins.

A QuickBooks cleanup finds and corrects inaccurate, duplicated, incomplete, or unreconciled bookkeeping already in the file. The work includes correcting account classifications, resolving bank-feed duplicates, reviewing receivables and payables, clearing unsupported balances, and reconciling bank, credit card, loan, payroll, merchant, and other balance-sheet accounts. The goal is a supportable set of books—not merely a file that looks tidy.
You do not need to diagnose the cause. These are common warning signs:
One warning sign does not prove the entire file is wrong. It does mean the underlying transactions and reconciliations should be reviewed before more bookkeeping is added on top.
The services are related, but they solve different problems—and many businesses need some of both.
| Service | What it solves | Typical work |
|---|---|---|
| Cleanup | Transactions are present, but some are wrong, duplicated, unmatched, or unreconciled. | Diagnosis, correction, reconciliation, and balance-sheet review. |
| Catch-up | Transactions or entire periods were never recorded. | Reconstruction from statements, reports, invoices, receipts, payroll, and other source records. |
| Combined project | Some periods are missing and other periods are inaccurate. | One coordinated scope covering reconstruction and correction. |
If your books are mainly missing rather than mainly wrong, visit New Jersey Catch-Up Bookkeeping.
We review the available QuickBooks Online data and discuss the periods, accounts, and records involved. We then propose a written scope, fixed price, and expected schedule.
We examine the chart of accounts and relevant settings, integrations, bank-feed rules, and workflows. Recommended structural changes are discussed before material changes are made.
Within the agreed scope, we address duplicates, miscoding, unmatched activity, uncategorized transactions, customer and vendor balances, and other identified issues.
We reconcile the accounts and periods included in the proposal to available statements and supporting reports. Differences that require a business decision or missing evidence are documented.
We review relevant loans, payroll liabilities, sales-tax liabilities, merchant clearing, owner activity, opening balances, and other balance-sheet accounts included in scope.
A Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor reviews the completed work. You receive reconciled books, financial statements, unresolved-item notes, and an explanation of material changes.
A new file can erase useful history without correcting the process that created the errors. We first assess whether the existing file can be repaired. If a new file or conversion would be more reliable, we explain the tradeoffs and obtain approval before making a major structural change.
The exact request depends on the file. Common items include:
We use the least access reasonably needed for the engagement. The proposal and onboarding request will identify the records and access method required for your project.
OneBooks quotes cleanup work at a fixed price after reviewing the file. The price depends on the number of periods and accounts, transaction volume, reconciliation history, payroll and sales-tax activity, loans, payment processors, inventory or job-costing complexity, quality of source records, and how much must be reconstructed rather than corrected.
Typical ranges from completed projects are shown below. Every engagement is quoted individually. Your proposal defines the exact accounts and periods included.
| Scope of cleanup | Typical fixed price | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Cleanup (up to ~6 months) | $750–$1,500 | 1–3 weeks |
| Standard Cleanup (7–12 months) | $1,500–$3,000 | 3–6 weeks |
| Complex Cleanup (1–2 years, or prior bookkeeper’s file) | $3,000–$6,000 | 1–2 months |
For additional backlog pricing context, see: Catch-Up Bookkeeping Cost Guide.
Most cleanups finish in 2 to 6 weeks; Complex Cleanup projects typically take 1 to 2 months. The schedule depends on the periods involved, transaction volume, number of accounts, record availability, and how quickly questions are answered. After the assessment, we provide an expected schedule with the proposal. Missing statements, unresolved owner transactions, payroll differences, or prior-year issues can extend the work.
New Jersey businesses often have state-specific activity that must be reflected correctly in the books. We check the state-specific accounts and records that apply to the business.
Whether the liability recorded in QuickBooks agrees with New Jersey returns and payments, including the state’s 6.625% general rate and applicable filing activity.
Whether payroll expense, cash withdrawals, and liability accounts agree with payroll reports and New Jersey filings such as NJ-927 and WR-30.
Whether opening balances and accountant adjustments agree with the latest reliable tax return and workpapers available.
Whether distributions, contributions, reimbursements, loans, and personal charges are separated and presented consistently for the entity type.
Cleanup corrects the bookkeeping records. Tax-return preparation, amended filings, notices, and filing responsibility are confirmed separately in the proposal; they should not be assumed to be part of a bookkeeping cleanup.

A QuickBooks cleanup includes transaction corrections, duplicate removal, reconciliations, receivable and payable review, chart-of-accounts work, and review of relevant balance-sheet accounts.
Cleanup fixes inaccurate work already in the file. Catch-up reconstructs missing work. If both conditions exist, OneBooks can propose a combined project.

Not necessarily. We assess whether the existing file can be repaired and preserve useful history. If a new file is advisable, we explain the reasons and transition considerations before proceeding.
